Among bible commentaries, the Navarre Bible commentaries are some of the most highly recommended because of their depth and scholarly insight…while still remaining accessable to the lay person.  The text is in english and latin, and the commentary on each page takes up more room than the scripture.  These are definitely my personal favorites.
