On Time To Mass - With Children

I was recently having a discussion with someone about why we were always late to mass on the weekend.  They asked, “Why don’t you just start getting ready 15 or 30 minutes earlier?”  Honestly, we have tried that approach, and found that we still ended up being late.  After putting in much thought, I have realized that when we leave for church, we NEVER have our children completely ready when we leave for church.  What ultimately happens to us is that we get mostly ready, and then someone decides that they are going to throw a fit on the floor, that they have lost their shoes, or that they need several last minute items.  Eventually, the clock runs down, we cut our losses and throw everyone in the van in desperation.  When we start earlier, the kids just take that as having more time to cause delays, leading to us eventually leaving in desperation anyway.  For us, it is a losing proposition either way.
